A Change In Focus
Since 1995, Matre Gallery has defined my professional career. Since 2003, photography has defined my artistic career. “Full-time gallery owner, part-time photographer”, that’s the role I’ve played in recent years.
But as my photography career has continued to evolve, it has become my most rewarding endeavor. So while the process has been taking shape for some time, it’s time to announce a strategic change.
Matre Gallery will now become a venue for the exhibition and sale of my photography. I will still show and sell works by other artists and host openings and exhibitions, but the primary focus will be on my own work.
“Full-time photographer, part-time gallery owner”. Now it’s official.

Six Degrees
Sometimes clicking the shutter is merely the beginning of the photographic process. Here are six variations of a recent image of my son Jett.
1. Color version cropped to portrait format.
2. Processed in black & white and then given a slight sepia tone.
3. Processed in the style of my Recent History series.
4. Cropped square and processed in the style of my Show & Tell series.
5. I printed the Show & Tell version and adhered it to a wood panel with gel medium. I then painted the photograph with acrylic and applied a heavy varnish of gloss medium. This is what it looked like right after pouring on the gloss medium, complete with air bubbles. This step requires a certain amount of courage and confidence in the process.
6. I scraped away much of the gloss medium just prior to its drying fully, which gave the surface an imperfect texture and gave the final piece an edgy quality. This was a risky moved but it paid off. It's interesting that the camera picks up some yellow tones that aren't as visible to the eye. The piece is 10 x 10 inches, and sits proudly atop a chest of drawers in our living room.
Tee-Off
My photos are featured in the brochure for The Univeristy of Georgia Tee-Off Club, which funds the Men's Golf team. The $5000 Ace donation level includes one of my framed photographs among other perks, as seen above. Donations start at the $100 Par Level.

Mark Boomershine was born in Atlanta in 1971. Educated at the University of Alabama (1995), Boomershine studied both Business Management as well as Fine Art. The use of both left and right brain led the artist to explore all things graphic. Boomershine has traveled the world exploring vast cultures and how they represent themselves artistically. He gravitated toward the power of the pop art movement and uses simplistic images offset by meaningful words about the artist's subject. The result brings to life both the imagery and insight in the individual being painted. Through his techniques, motivated by the palette and provocation of pop art, the viewer is able to experience a total immersion in the multidimensional quality of each subject.
